Australians don’t put King Charles on a $5 note | Economy

The new Australian $5 banknote will not feature a picture of British King Charles. This has been announced by the Reserve Bank of Australia. Now a portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth still adorns the banknote.

Australia’s central bank opts for an image that “honours the culture and history of the first Australians”. They are also consulted about which image should appear on the banknote.

The $5 note was the only Australian banknote to feature a British monarch. Australia is part of the Commonwealth of Nations, of which Charles is the symbolic head. Since the death of Queen Elizabeth, the debate has flared up in that country whether it wants to remain part of it.

According to the central bank, it will take years before the new $ 5 bill is designed and printed.
