Spadikam movie directed by Bhadran starring Mohanlal is releasing in 4K on February 9th. In the second coming of the once-superhit movie, many of the main stars of the day are no longer alive today. After paying respects to them, the movie will hit the theaters again.
There are a few other surprises in the crystal’s second coming. To the words of director Bhadran’s Facebook post:
dear ones,
It’s only a few days until the heart-pounding ‘Crystal’ that you all stamped on your chest is back in theaters with 4K visuals and Dolby Atmos sound. I am looking forward to those moments from February 9th when the bullet that wakes up the road, the roar of the lorry and the sound of the explosion shattering the black rock will fill your eardrums with the sheer awe of new technology.
Thank you so much for the amazing reception you gave to the motion poster, teaser and character posters of the movie.
I had said at the press meet in Kochi that there will be some new shots added when the ‘crystal’ is shown in front of you in 4K visual excellence. A prize was also announced for those who could find out which ones they were. But I fear that the chemistry of the overall enjoyment of the film may be lost when you look at the new shots. So we are making a difference by respecting the opinions of many people who love ‘Sphatika’ from many angles.
We’re taking a different approach to making that gift available to you. As a gift for 28 years of love, now Aduthoma will directly gift you a bullet bike and ray ban glasses. The details of the #SpadikamContest will be updated soon. Mohanlal will personally gift the bullet and ribbon to the lucky winner!
The film collected more than 8 crores at the box office in 1995 and was one of the highest grossing Malayalam films of that year. Along with other important awards, Mohanlal won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor.
The film was remade into Telugu, Tamil and Kannada languages. Over the years, the film has achieved a cult status. The character Adu Thoma has become a pop culture icon over the years.
In March 2020, plans were announced to re-release ‘Sphatikum’ digitally enhanced and theatrically on the occasion of the film’s 25th anniversary.
