Princess Diana’s private letters reveal more details from the divorce

The letters were written in the period 1995 and 1996, to her friends Susie and Tarek Kassem.

One of the letters states that Diana canceled a trip to the opera because of all the stress after the divorce.

“I’m having a really hard time. The pressure is serious and comes from all sides,” she acknowledged, adding:

“It’s hard to keep my head up, today I’m on my knees and just longing for the divorce to go through, as the cost is enormous.”

Only a month later, however, the princess wrote that she would not have agreed to a divorce if she had known that it was going to be so “desperate and ugly”.

In the same letter, she also said that her phone at Kensington Palace had been tapped.

“A great responsibility”

Princess Diana and the pair of friends Susie and Tarek met for the first time in August 1995, during one of the princess’s visits to the Royal Brompton Hospital.

In the letters, Diana is said to have thanked them several times for being there for her through the divorce.

The couple are now selling the letters, and claim it is because they do not want to pass on “such a big responsibility” to their children. The auction house writes, Lay’s Auctioneerson their websites.

The proceeds from the sale will go to some of the charities that were close to Princess Diana and Susie.
