Since Elon Musk became the owner of “Twitter”, the company is not doing very well. We have already written about the fact that both advertisers and users are actively leaving the platform. In order to somehow climb out of the hole, “Twitter” with Mask at the head is actively looking for new sources of income. One of those was interesting trade usernames in auctions. However, all this time, one heretical thought has not left Maska alone – integrate the Twitter payment system and make it a platform where payments can also be made. It looks like there will be a step forward in this area.
New evidence has emerged that Musk wants Twitter to be more than just a social network and also serve as a payment platform, competing with the likes of Apple Pay and PayPal.
In November, Elon Musk outlined his plans to enter the payments market during a meeting with Twitter advertisers. He suggested that users would also be able to transfer money to other users and perform other financial activities on the platform. Since then, more information about these plans has not been released. But now there is evidence that Twitter is actively working on this idea.
According to the Financial Times, Twitter has applied for the necessary licenses to become a payment platform in the United States. The report also said that Esther Crawford, Twitter’s director of product management, worked on the new service. It is also indicated that Elon Musk wants to turn Twitter into an “everything app” or an app that provides everything – from messaging to payments and commerce. Of course, there is still a long way to go to achieve this goal, and then it will be seen whether Musk will succeed in anything at all.
