Slovak cyclist Erik Baška ended his career at the age of 29. TA3 TV reported about it on Tuesday.
The European champion in the under-23 category from 2015 worked in Dukla Banská Bystrica last season, before that he rode with Peter Sagan in the World Tour for six years.
The last time Baška appeared was at the EC in Munich, but he did not finish the August race. “For me, the last two years of my career were probably the most difficult. Since overcoming Covid-19, I have had various health problems,” said Baška.
He wanted to postpone it, but after the EC he finally decided: “I wanted to give it another chance and see if it would improve or not. I tried, I struggled, but there was no effect.” he added.
Baška achieved his greatest success alongside the Sagan brothers in the World Tour teams Tinkoff and Bora-hansgrohe. In 2016, he triumphed at the Handzam Classic event.
