The basic fare for medium-sized taxis in Seoul will increase by 1,000 won from February 1st.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government on the 30th, the basic taxi fare will rise by 1,000 won from 3,800 won to 4,800 won from February 1. The basic distance is also reduced by 400m from 2km to 1.6km.
The fare per distance will be adjusted from the current 100 won per 132 m to 100 won per 131 m, and the hourly rate will be adjusted from 100 won per 31 seconds to 100 won per 30 seconds. The fare meter rises faster than before, and the speed at which it rises is also faster.
Late at night (10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the next day), the fare increases further in line with the expansion of the surcharge.
Previously, the city of Seoul moved the late-night surcharge for taxis by two hours from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. In addition, from 11:00 p.m., when passengers are crowded, to 2:00 a.m. the next day, the late-night flexible fare system is applied, in which the premium rate increases from 20% to 40%.
The basic fare for the rest of Seoul’s deluxe and large taxis will rise by 500 won from the current 6,500 won per 3km to 7,000 won from February. Section and charter rates for foreign tourist taxis will also increase by 5,000 to 10,000 won in line with the adjustment of the basic taxi fare.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government plans to raise subway and bus fares for the first time in eight years following taxi fares. At the earliest, at the end of April, a plan to raise subway, city bus, and village bus fares by 300 to 400 won is being promoted.
