Alec Baldwin has been formally charged with negligent homicide, and according to TMZ, the police are using Baldwin’s statements in TV interviews against him.
The movie star was the one holding the gun that was accidentally fired on the set in Santa Fe, New Mexico in October 2021, killing the 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
I mthe beginning of January it became known that the police believe Alec Baldwin (64) should be held responsible for the shooting accident on the “Rust” set in New Mexico, and that he should be charged with negligent homicide.
On Tuesday, the charge is official, writes CNN, among others.
Also Baldwin’s colleague, weapons officer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, is now charged with negligent homicide.
Baldwin’s lawyer has previously stated that he believes the charge is “terrible” and says that “they will win”.
How the prop weapon was fired, and not least how it was loaded, has remained a mystery.
Baldwin has always maintained that he is innocent. The police quickly concluded that the incident was an accident, but they have been investigating the case for 15 months – and have always been clear that charges could be brought.
According to court documents that TMZ refer to user police TV interview Baldwin has lined up in, against him.
Baldwin has previously claimed that the gun’s trigger was never pulled.
According to TMZ, the FBI and prosecutors dispute this, and it is indicated that there should be more photos and videos that clearly show that Baldwin has his finger on the trigger.
The survivors of the cinematographer who lost his life said in a statement after the press conference that “they support the charges”.
The film will be completed despite the tragic incident. At least that was the plan until the charges were announced.
The “Rust” producers joined in October last year settlement with the estate of Halyna Hutchins. The agreement states that Hutchins’ widower takes over as executive producer for the recording – this is to honor her memory, among other things.
