Uruguay exhibits low rates of new cases of Covid-19 | News

The Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health (MSP) confirmed on Monday the downward trend in new coronavirus infections in the country, in parallel to a low rate of bed occupancy in hospital centers.

According to the government entity, in the last week 1,129 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed, with 1,162 active, 11,934 tests carried out and only three deaths.

Likewise, the ministry announced that a nationwide vaccination campaign of a booster dose will begin next Tuesday, the fifth since the start of the battle against the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

This booster dose will be administered to people over 50 years of age who suffer from chronic diseases that are susceptible to leading to serious illnesses, the document stated.

Last December 2022, a vaccination process was undertaken for people over 80 years of age, which later gave way to the inoculation of the age group over 70.

It also transpired in the declaration that, as part of this process, people over 50 years of age who do not have comorbidities will also have the opportunity to receive a complementary dose, the fourth for this population group.

Since the start of the pandemic, Uruguay has reported a total of cases close to 1,032,710, with around 7,609 deaths, remaining in a meridian place, according to its population density.

Reports from international organizations report that until January 2023, the Latin American countries with the highest incidence of the virus are Brazil (36,794,650 cases), Argentina (10,032,709), Mexico (7,353,630) and Colombia, with 6,356,309 confirmed cases. .
