It was previously planned to have two million VR glasses ready for the launch of the PlayStation VR2 headset. Now the plan is to ship about one and a half million headsets between April and March next year. That number can still be adjusted if the demand for the device changes.
A display supplier must take into account fewer orders from Sony, sources report Bloomberg. Two displays are used for each VR2 headset. These are placed behind the glasses, so that the user imagines himself in a virtual world.
Sony started pre-sale of the PlayStation VR2 in November. At first only a small group of interested parties could order the headset, but soon everyone could pre-order the device.
The headset costs 599.99 euros. That is more expensive than the PlayStation 5. Analysts think that the high price is slowing down interest in the headset. In addition, the glasses only work on the PlayStation 5 and not on other game computers.
