Despite problems in supply chains, production disruptions and other issues, Japanese automaker Toyota sold the most cars in 2022. The data shows that last year the Toyota concern delivered 10,483,024 cars to customers around the world. These statistics also include sub-brands Daihatsu and commercial vehicle manufacturer Hino. The Toyota brand accounted for slightly more than 9 million of the total number of cars. On an annual basis, Toyota produced 10.6 million cars, and some of these cars are delivered in the first weeks of this year.
Compared to 2021, Toyota delivered 0.1 percent fewer cars last year, but this is, of course, an insignificant decrease. Toyota is far ahead of its closest followers, which is the Volkswagen Group – the German car giant sold 8.3 million cars last year. These statistics include all brands of the Volkswagen Group. This is 7 percent less than a year ago.
In fact, this is Volkswagen’s worst result in more than 10 years. The invasion of the Russian occupiers into Ukraine played a significant role in it. It was previously reported that some of Volkswagen’s suppliers produced car parts in Ukraine. With the outbreak of war, of course, production was halted, while Volkswagen had to redirect the supply of parts to its factories from other locations and limit production volumes.
