The new rescue station of the DRK rescue service Freital gGmbh has been put into operation in Kreischa. The new branch office on Lungkwitzer Straße replaces the old location on the premises of the Bavaria Klinik Kreischa.

In the new building with a usable area of a good 360 square meters there are four relaxation rooms, a lounge with a large LED television, a larger kitchen, sanitary facilities with changing rooms, storage rooms and an office from which the branch manager Rico Hiller organizes the work. The building is at ground level. The approximately 150 square meter vehicle hall is connected to the social wing and has three parking spaces. Here the vehicles can also be disinfected on site, says spokeswoman Marika Stamm from the DRK district association Freital.

Another advantage: The employees can quickly switch to the vehicle hall. This means that the deployment time of one minute is adhered to and the legal period for assistance is secured, according to Marika Stamm. A traffic light was installed in front of the building so that the ambulances can drive quickly, safely and unhindered onto Lungkwitzer Straße.

The rescue station will be staffed 24 hours a day all year round, the spokeswoman said. A maximum of eight employees will work here during a day shift. Stamm’s colleagues are responsible for the district of Kreischa, but also for districts in the districts of Bannewitz and Müglitztal as well as for Hausdorf, a district in the city of Glashütte. One of the two ambulances is on call 24 hours a day, the other is on call 24 hours Monday to Friday and 16 hours Saturday and Sunday. An ambulance is also stationed in Kreischa.

With the new guard, the conditions of the employees improve. At the old location, there were only a few spaces for them. Since there was no vehicle hall there, the ambulances had to park outside. That no longer met “today’s requirements”, according to the spokeswoman.

With the new building, the working conditions have been “significantly” improved. Work on this began on May 2nd, 2018, and the building was completed on November 10th last year. The original plan was to complete the new rescue station in April 2022. A few days ago, the building was officially put into operation with a ceremony. The chairman of the DRK district association in Freital, Andreas Ritter, was able to welcome District Administrator Michael Geisler (CDU) and Kreischa’s mayor Frank Schöning (free citizens’ representation in Kreischa), among others. The rescue station started its work in November 2022.

The rescue station Kreischa is one of three branch offices of the rescue station Freital, for which a total of 130 employees work. The fleet currently includes 23 vehicles, twelve of which are ambulances. In 2022 there were 20,517 missions in the entire area of operation, according to the DRK there were 2,795 in the branch office in Kreischa, of which 824 were ambulance missions.
