As reported ReutersTuesday (31/1/2023), Pakistan Police said that a suicide bomber walked past a number of barricades guarded by security personnel to enter the ‘Red Zone’ complex which houses the police headquarters and counterterrorism unit in Peshawar.
“It was a suicide bombing,” Peshawar Police Chief Ijaz Khan told Reuters.

A local hospital official, Mohammad Asim, said the death toll had risen to 59 after a number of people died from their injuries. Of that number, Asim added, around 27 of the dead were police personnel.
No group or party has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb explosion. The Pakistani Taliban group, also known as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has denied being behind the bomb blast.
“Tehreek-e-Taliban has nothing to do with this attack,” the TTP said in a statement.
