The management of Volkswagen has confirmed that the legend of the group, the compact class model Golf, will continue to live in the electric age, moving into its ninth generation.
Thomas Schaefer, head of Volkswagen, disclosed this information to the journalists of the Spanish edition of Autobild, stressing that in the middle of 2024, the current generation Golf (Golf 8) will get improvements in the planned modernization process and informing that the company’s engineers are already working on the concept of the next generation model family. The name Golf will be kept, however, according to him, internal combustion engines will no longer have a place in it. It can be concluded that the popular hatchback will move to the ninth generation, keeping the Golf name and continuing its existence as a fully electric compact model.
Let us remind you that previously the future life of the Golf was planned under the name ID Golf, but in Volkswagen’s offer it would stand between the ID.3 and the ID.2 expected in 2025.
The German media adds that the new generation Golf can hardly be expected earlier than 2028, taking into account the fact that the life of a facelifted model usually lasts another three years. It’s pretty safe to say that by then, the Golf will get an improved multimedia device with a 12.3-inch screen, improved voice control and a steering wheel, which, after many users’ criticism, will return function keys.
