Panama City, Jan 30. The Ministry of Health of Panama (Minsa) reported this Monday 640 new cases of covid-19 and 2 deaths from the disease registered between Sunday 22 and Saturday 28 January, bringing confirmed infections to 1,029,701 and 8,596. deaths in more than two years of pandemic.
The number of cases and deaths reported by the Minsa in its weekly epidemiological report is the lowest so far this year, in the midst of a sixth pandemic wave that began in mid-November last year and that the health authorities have indicated that “is under control”.
In its weekly report, the health entity also details that until last Saturday there was only one patient admitted for the coronavirus in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 64 in the ward, while 834 were isolated at home.
The patients who have recovered from the disease total 1,020,206 to date since March 9, 2020, when the first case of infection occurred in Panama.
Between January 22 and 28, a total of 16,311 tests were applied to detect covid cases, which yielded an overall positivity percentage of 3.9%.
Regarding the vaccination process, the Minsa Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) indicates that since January 20, 2021 in Panama, 8,756,308 doses of covid-19 vaccine have been administered, mostly from the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer.
Minors between 5 and 11 years old have received 482,728 pediatric doses of Pfizer, and 14,968 doses, infants between 6 months and 4 years old received 14,968, according to the Minsa.
Panama approved last December the emergency use of the Pfizer-BioNTech bivalent vaccine, which will be applied to the population aged 12 or over who already have at least 2 doses of the monovalent immunization, said the health entity. EFE
