Car production has significantly decreased in 2020, when the drop was on average 15 percent due to the Covid 19 pandemic. The consequences of restrictions on the spread of the virus hit the automotive industry particularly hard in Europe and the United States, where the production value dropped by as much as 21 percent. In 2021, the recovery of the industry began and the indicators increased by 3 percent. Although progress is being made, pre-pandemic production levels have not yet been reached.
China is the largest producer of vehicles, with about 26 million vehicles built there in 2021 (21.4 million cars and 4.6 million commercial vehicles).
The most important producer is SAIC Motorit is the largest in the industry in the country and consists of companies such as SAIC Volkswagen (Volkswagen, Skoda, Audi) and SAIC General Motors (Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac). Also the next company Dongfeng produces a car of its own design and cooperates in projects Dongfeng-Honda, Dongfeng-Nissan un Dongfeng-Peugeot Citroën. FAW the company’s international partners are FAW-Toyota and FAW-Volkswagen (Volkswagen, Audi), bet Changan – Changan Ford and Changan Mazda.
The second largest auto producer is the United States, although it does not build even half of what is made in China. The US has a much larger proportion of commercial transport, at 7.6 million units per year, compared to 1.5 million cars per year.
The largest US producers are General Motorswhich includes such well-known brands as Buick, Cadillac un Chevrolet, Ford Motor Companywhich can be found not only Fordbut also Lincolnand Stellar with brands like Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Fiat, CitroënPeugeot and Opel; it is the fourth largest car manufacturing company in the world.
Japan completes the top three with almost 8 million vehicles produced annually, of which 6.7 million are cars and 1.3 million are commercial vehicles. Cars made in Japan stand out for their compactness and sportiness, versatility and reliability, persistently continuing to conquer the European and US markets as well. Brands that come from Japan are Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Suzuki, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Subaru. Also a luxury vehicle Lexus originated in this country.
In fourth place is India, and its largest companies are Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors. Cars of such brands as Hyundai and Come onwhich is a foreign manufacturer that owns the largest market share, but there is also cooperation of various scales with big brands – BMW Group, Honda, Volkswagen Group etc. South Korea is a manufacturing country for several Hyundai, Kia and Renault models.
In the automotive industry, there are countless models of cooperation and many countries are involved, so throughout the complex process, the interests of manufacturers and importers are represented by the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers; OICA), founded in 1919 in Paris.
SHEEP the aim is to unite the automobile associations of different manufacturing countries, to explore the common interests of the industry, to promote development, to create a common vision of the future and to allow the members of the organization to exchange important information about the industry. One of the main tasks is to develop and maintain the common automotive policy, defending the common interests of car manufacturers at the international level, representing and promoting the common position and policy of the industry. SHEEP consists of 37 countries, the organization has four committees – exhibition, technical, statistical and communication.
