Eight people have been killed in a shooting at a birthday party in the South African city of Port Elizabeth. Three people were injured.
According to police, two gunmen opened fire on guests attending the party at a residence in the southeastern city. No one has been arrested yet.
The identities of all victims are not yet known. It is clear that the owner of the house did not survive the shooting. Initially, seven people were killed, the eighth later died in hospital, report local media.
‘cowardly act’
“Criminals have killed these people, and we will not rest until we know what happened and who is responsible,” said a police commissioner. She speaks of a “cowardly act” and “blatant disregard for human life”.
A team of detectives has been appointed to track down the perpetrators. The commissioner calls on witnesses to come forward.
