Cak Nanto Chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth Called by Jokowi to the Palace

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) summoned the General Chairperson of the Central Executive Muhammadiyah Youth Sunanto or Cak Nanto to the Jakarta Presidential Palace.

The meeting took place behind closed doors for about an hour. On that occasion, Nanto was accompanied by a number of PP Pemuda Muhammadiyah officials.

Nanto said that the meeting had nothing to do with the recent cabinet reshuffle. His party, said Nanto, had come to the palace to extend an invitation to Jokowi.

“We invite Mr. President to open the 18th Muhammadiyah Youth Conference in Balikpapan, God willing, February 21-24. So, invite, and Mr. President’s answer, God willing, we can open it,” Nanto said when met at the Jakarta Presidential Palace, Monday (30/1 ).

Nanto has repeatedly denied the meeting had anything to do with politics. According to him, Muhammadiyah Youth only conveyed invitations and a number of aspirations.

He said one of the aspirations conveyed was related to the new national capital (IKN). Muhammadiyah Youth expressed support for Jokowi’s policy of moving the national capital to the Archipelago, which is still part of East Kalimantan.

Nanto said Jokowi did not talk at all about a cabinet reshuffle. He also did not feel offered a position in the cabinet by Jokowi.

“The authority is there. If they are offered, they will be summoned later [ke istana] by myself,” Nanto said with a laugh.
