IOC President Thomas Bach reacted to Ukraine’s decision to boycott the 2024 Olympic Games if Russians and Belarusians are allowed to attend

IOC President Thomas Bach gave several comments on the latest news that haunts the majority of the civilized world – the admission of athletes from the Russian Federation and Belarus to the Olympic Games in Paris. He stated that these athletes should be able to compete as neutral representatives.

As for the boycott of the competitions on behalf of Ukraine, which was announced by Vadim Gutzeit, according to Bach, it does not correspond to the main mission of the committee. The International Olympic Committee sees that Ukraine wants to achieve maximum isolation of all of Russia, including its people, even in sports. But the committee insists that some athletes should not suffer isolation, even when countries are “in conflict”.

It is not the task of the IOC to weed out athletes because of the color of their passports, therefore participation of these athletes under a neutral flag is considered. The Olympics brings together athletes from all over the world to unite.

It should be noted that after it became known about the intentions of the IOC to allow athletes from the aggressor countries to the Olympic Games-2024, Vadim Gutzeit said that Ukraine in this case would be forced to boycott these competitions.
