Opportunistic funds investing in riskier real estate could raise record amounts in the near future, Cantor-Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick said at the World Economic Forum in Davos last week. These new developments could make the market turbulence more severe but also more short-lived than in the past, when banks held onto bad loans for years. And they also offer opportunities: “Anyone who finds a creative way to close this gap is going to have a lot of fun,” says Mat Oakley of real estate agent Savills.
