Rockets beat Pistons duel between the worst in the NBA

DETROIT (AP) — Kenyon Martin Jr. scored four points on a single possession with 31 seconds left, and the Houston Rockets beat the Detroit Pistons 117-114 on Saturday in a matchup between the worst teams in the NBA.

Eric Gordon led the Rockets (12-38) with 24 points. Martin added 15 and grabbed 13 balls off the boards, while Tari Eason had 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Alec Burks had 21 points for the Pistons (13-38), who have lost five of their last six games.

The Pistons led 112-109 when Martin was fouled for an attempted layup. The ball bounced twice off the hoop and went in.

Martin missed the first shot but Je’Sean Tate kept the ball alive. Martin did not miss his subsequent shot, which gave Houston a 113-112 lead.

Jabari Smith Jr. then struggled with Burks and the Rockets won the ball on the jump ball.
