Ambassador Nabila Makram, the former Minister of Immigration, spoke for the first time about the murder of her son, Rami, of two of his friends in the United States of America, saying that her son was suffering from a mental illness.

And she said during an interview with the “Cairo Talk” program, which is presented by the journalist Khairy Ramadan on the “Cairo and the People” satellite channel, on Saturday evening, that “the voices ordered him to kill,” explaining that her son decided to stop obtaining psychiatric drugs. For his belief in the possibility of overcoming the disease himself.

She noted that stopping these medications leads to a major and sudden relapse, and the patient returns to a situation worse than the first, commenting on her son’s feeling after the crime: “He was sitting beside them, not understanding and not realizing, and he was robbed of will.”

She recounted that during her tenure as Consul of Egypt in Rome, between 2007 and 2011, she took care of the community’s problems and was keen to help them, explaining that at that time she had received a telegram from the Foreign Minister’s office.

She added, “An Egyptian woman contacted a TV program asking for help, and said that whenever she gives birth to a child, he lives for 6 months and then dies, and therefore she asked that her daughter Habiba be transferred to a hospital abroad for treatment.”

She mentioned that a hospital in Rome asked to follow up on Habiba’s case, noting that she had taken over the case of the mother, “Atiyat”, and was responsible for her eating and requests in the hospital with her daughter.

She pointed out that the girl’s functions were good, which prompted the hospital to install a camera in the room. To find out the cause of the convulsions that the girl is exposed to, noting that they discovered that the mother was strangling her daughter.

And she went on: “The cameras monitored that she was carrying the baby and breast-feeding her, but with the palm of her hand she suffocated the girl. The hospital pulled the girl and placed her under the guardianship of the Mayor of Rome, and the woman went to prison, but I did not believe why she would do that and go to Rome and make this journey.”

She recounted that she asked to watch the video and saw the mother suffocate the child, and entered into a case to return the girl to Egypt and her father, following up that after winning the case she left her children in Rome, handed the girl over to her father, then returned to resume her work and visit “Atiyat” in prison.

And she continued: “On one of the visits, she said to me: (I tell you about a higher need, he tells me what to do and what not to do). Eh, and when I came to recall this story in the experience that I am in, I understood that Atiyat suffers from schizophrenia, and the voices ordered my son to kill, just as they had ordered Atiyat.
