15 years without Bharat Gopi…. – Kairali News

It has been 15 years since Bharat Gopi, a rare actor of Malayalam cinema, was remembered. He excelled in many fields like director, writer, actor and his contributions to Malayalam cinema are countless.

On January 11, 1937, V. Bharat Gopi was born as Gopinathan Nair. He completed his education at Thiruvananthapuram University College and joined the Kerala Electricity Board as an Overseer. He had a keen interest in theater since his childhood and once got an opportunity to act as an actor in “Thiruvarangi” organized by Kavalam Narayanapanicker. After that, Gopi acted in about 100 plays. His plays such as Otayan, Avavan Kadamba and others are famous.

Adoor comes to cinema through Gopalakrishnan’s Swayamvaram. He became Malayalee’s favorite actor with some of the best Malayalam films of all time like Ormaikai, Yavanika, Kodiyetam and Panchavadipalam. Gopi also made her debut in Hindi with Manikaul’s Satah Se Udta Aadmi. In 1989, he directed the movie Utsavapitenni. He became the producer of Patheyam directed by Bharathan.

His film Katate Kilikkoot won the Special Jury Award at the Asia Pacific International Film Festival. Gopi won the National Award for his performance in Kodiyet. The films Kodiyetam, Ormaikai, Mynte Mamattikuttiyamma, Katate Kilikood and Chidambaram have also received state awards. In 1991, the country honored him with the Padma Shri. He died on January 29, 2008.
