Ford is going to sell one of its German factories to the Chinese

One of the world’s largest car manufacturers, Ford, is going to sell its factory in Germany, in the city of Saarlouis, as a result of the transaction, this factory will be at the disposal of the Chinese car manufacturer BYD. It is reported The Wall Street Journal.

According to the information available to the media, the managers of the two companies will meet soon to discuss this deal. For now, the whole process is still at an early stage and there is a possibility that the transaction might not take place in the end, if both parties are not able to agree on mutually beneficial conditions. True, for now there are positive signals from both automakers and the desire to complete the deal.

This plant in Germany produces one of Ford’s most popular models, the Focus hatchback, but production of the Focus will be discontinued in the next few years. Ford decided in advance that in the future electric cars will be produced in Valencia, and the Cologne plant has also been assigned a major role in the production of electric cars in Europe.

Ford has started negotiations with several possible investors about the Saarlouis factory, but BYD has shown the most interest so far. This Chinese car manufacturer wants to expand by selling its cars in Europe and part of the company’s strategy is to manufacture cars locally in Europe.
