The buying and selling startup, OLX Group, is reportedly taking efficiency steps towards its branch office in Indonesia, aka OLX Indonesia. In fact, the company also reportedly intends to sell its automotive business.
Reported from DealStreetAsia, the company is said to have terminated employment (PHK) for 30% of its employees or to be precise 300 of the total 1,000 existing employees. OLX Indonesia is changing its policy of buying and selling used cars on its platform and will slowly start leaving the business to consumer (B2C) model.
So, who is the owner of the OLX Group?
The owner of the OLX Group is Romain Voog. Reporting from the official website of the OLX Group, Saturday (28/01/2023), he has held the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since 2021. Voog takes over as CEO of OLX from Martin Scheepbouwer, who is retiring from corporate life.
Voog is a master graduate from Ecole Centrale Paris. He started his career as a consultant at Bain & Company. His career then continued to the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
Prior to becoming CEO of OLX, he was Airbnb’s Vice President of Sales Operations and Worldwide Geography. His experience in dealing with cyber consumers is also supported by a series of leadership experiences, including CEO of Global Fashion Group and President of Amazon France.
The OLX Group is a buying and selling startup that was founded in 2006. This company is headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and has been operating in more than 30 countries around the world. One of them is Indonesia.
OLX Indonesia has been around since 2014. At that time, OLX took over the online buying and selling platform Tokobagus. Not long ago, the company merged with berniaga.com
At that time, the position of CEO of OLX Indonesia was held by Daniel Tumiwa. Then 2 years later, Daniel resigned from his position and was replaced by Olaf Van Schagen in 2017.
Enlarging its business line, in 2020, OLX Indonesia annexed a startup buying and selling used cars, BeliMobilGue.co.id, which later changed its name to OLX Autos. And at that time, CEO of BeliMobilGue.co.id, Johnny Widodo was appointed to replace Olaf as CEO of OLX, until 2022 yesterday.
In January 2022, Lamudi.co.id reportedly acquired OLX’s property business unit. This condition is the aftermath of the acquisition of Lamudi Group’s parent company, Emerging Markets Property Group (EMPG), which merged with the OLX Group in 2020.
