JAKARTA – Apple is reportedly delaying the development of its dedicated WiFi chip. Previously it was reported that his party was preparing for development chip which will be produced independently and not depend on other suppliers.
“A recent survey I conducted for the semiconductor industry showed that Apple is delaying chip development His Wi-Fi for a while,” said Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in a note medium.com.
As quoted from Antara, Saturday (28/1), there were several reasons for the delay, including investors’ concerns about the stability of the chip business. Wi-Fi, until the trend shifts in the market.
From an investor perspective, according to Ming-Chi Kuo, investors are concerned that chip development will Apple’s Wi-Fi could impact its competitor’s business, namely Broadcom, which currently dominates the chip market Wi-Fi.
Apart from that, in terms of design, the delay was made because if Apple only developed the chip Wi-Fi in particular, then dependence on Bluetooth chips from other suppliers will still occur.
Perhaps, it would be good if Apple changed its development focus to chip combo that includes chip Wi-Fi as well Bluetooth if development resumes.
That actually makes more sense. Because according to the analyst, at this time only this type of combo chip becomes a chip which Apple uses the most instead of chips Wi-Fi connection.
The delay may also be related to Apple’s new goal which seems to want to develop a better new processor, which can bring significantly increased performance and power consumption efficiency. With this aim, the resources of researchers for chip development Wi-Fi has finally switched over for the processor project.
It is estimated that the development of the processor will take place this year and will be mass produced no later than 2025. As a step to meet the need for chips Wi-Fi, therefore Apple will still need Broadcom to meet its needs, including the iPhone 15 series.
As for the chips The Wi-Fi to be used is suspected to be in the form of a chip Wi-Fi 6E atau Wi-Fi 7.
