Royal couple and Amalia arrived on Bonaire for a visit to the Caribbean | Royal family

Princess Amalia, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima arrived on Bonaire local time on Friday afternoon. They will start a tour of the Caribbean part of the Netherlands on Saturday.

King Willem-Alexander flew the queen and the princess himself into the government plane. They arrived on Bonaire on Friday afternoon (local time), where it is five hours earlier than in the Netherlands.

The royal family and State Secretary Alexandra van Huffelen (Kingdom Relations and Digitization) were welcomed by Island Governor Edison Rijna, among others. The king gave him an amicable hand when he arrived.

After a visit to Bonaire, the group will travel to Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Sint Eustatius and Saba. In this way they want to introduce Amalia to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The trip takes a total of two weeks and is all about the slavery past, climate change and the culture on the islands.

In principle, the Princess of Orange would have regular lectures at the University of Amsterdam in the coming weeks. Most subjects are not compulsory, and an exception can be made for the compulsory subjects. According to the Government Information Service, the trip was planned “in good consultation” with the university.
