The Lambayeque region received its first batch of the monkeypox vaccine, a total of 650 doses that will serve to protect –in principle– people living with HIV or are exposed to the virus through their sexual activity, reported the Regional Management of Health (Geresa).
To the date, Lambayeque reports 44 cases of monkeypox.
The regional coordinator of Immunizations, José Enríquez Salazar, explained that people who receive antiretroviral treatment for living with HIV/AIDS, those who have sexual relations with people of the same sex and health personnel who process samples of monkeypox.
Two dose protection
Enríquez explained that an inactivated vaccine will be administered. “There are two doses that must be applied: one at the first contact with the patient and the second at 28 days“.
Vaccination will be carried out according to the nominal register managed by both the Regional Health Management and Essalud, of patients receiving antiretroviral treatment. They will be summoned at different times to be protected with the two doses against monkeypox.
