The representative of the Hamilton Hotel, who is accused of increasing the scale of the Itaewon disaster by illegally extending the building, was handed over to trial.

The Seoul Western District Prosecutor’s Office announced on the 27th that it had indicted five people, including Mr. A, CEO of Hamilton Hotel, and Mr. B, CEO of Frost, a pub located in the annex of the hotel, on charges of violating building laws and road laws without detention.

Mr. A is accused of building an illegal structure around the Hamilton Hotel and occupying the road without permission. On the west side of the main building of the Hamilton Hotel, which faces the alley where the stampede occurred, iron temporary walls were installed 10 years ago to cover the outdoor unit of the air conditioner.

Frost, which is located on the first floor of the hotel annex, and ‘W179’, which is operating on the second floor of the main building, were also found to have expanded their terraces without permission.

The Special Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency originally handed it over to the prosecution on charges that Mr. A and the Hamilton Hotel operating corporation aided in the illegal extension. However, the prosecution dismissed the charges, saying, “As a result of the investigation, there is no evidence to believe that there was an intention to neglect the installation without permission.”
