Karvail notes that this weekend he ends his term as US ambassador to Latvia. He points out that during the past three years, tests were put on the USA and Latvia by a global pandemic and Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.
“But in the face of these challenges, our shared commitment to freedom and democratic values deepened our bond. Our relationship is stronger than ever,” says Carwile.
He emphasizes that it was an honor to lead the US embassy team – both American and Latvian – and Kárvails is grateful for their efforts, professionalism and achievements. He also highly values the Latvian government’s support for the deepening of bilateral relations between the United States and the countries.
“Finally, I am grateful to you – the people of Latvia. I admire your passion for your culture and history. Thank you for sharing this passion with us. My wife and I will always carry Latvia in our hearts,” emphasizes Kárvails.
He states that he is leaving with the confidence that the USA and Latvia will continue to defend each other, continuing to strengthen our security, as well as protecting democratic institutions and the rule of law.
“We are starting our second century of diplomatic relations as allies and true friends, standing side by side and ready to face challenges in the future. Thank you, Latvia,” emphasizes Kárvails.
Karvails began his work as the US ambassador to Latvia in 2019. He was nominated for the job of ambassador by then US President Donald Trump.
As reported, the US Senate has approved career diplomat Christopher Robinson as the new US ambassador to Latvia.
In June, US President Joe Biden nominated Robinson, who is a member of the highest-ranking Foreign Service at the rank of Envoy-Counselor and held the position of US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Office of European and Eurasian Affairs, as the next US Ambassador to Latvia.
Previously, Robinson held the position of Counselor of Envoy for Political Affairs at the US Embassy in Moscow. Prior to that, he worked at the State Department as the Deputy Director of the Russian Affairs Division, at the US Mission to the European Security and Cooperation Council in Vienna as a political advisor and as a political advisor in Managua.
He has also served in Iraq, Belarus, Canada and Russia, as well as worked in the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the Office of European Affairs.
Robinson holds a master’s degree in strategic sciences from the National Defense University’s National War College and a bachelor’s degree in international relations from George Washington University.
He received several State Department recognition awards, including the Distinguished Service Medal. Robonson speaks Russian and Spanish.
