Bank strike postponed; Discussion again on 31st Bank strike postponed

Thrissur: The bank strike scheduled for January 30 and 31 has been postponed. The strike was called off as per the agreement reached in the conciliation talks held in Mumbai on Friday in the presence of the Deputy Chief Labor Commissioner, Central Region.

The agreement is to hold talks again on 31st and if there is no resolution, then the date for the next talks will be decided on the same day. Unions of officers and employees will jointly hold talks with the Indian Banks Association (IBA), a joint forum of bank managements, on the demands of five working days, pension reform and restoration of the old pension scheme. Other issues will be discussed separately with both groups of organizations.

In the discussion, the IBA representatives informed that they have received a letter from the Union Finance Ministry instructing the banks to start the salary reform process. It was also agreed to discuss the demand of five working days in a week with all the sections related to banking services and decide within a month.

The strike was called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), a coalition of nine organizations of officers and employees.
