Unifrance and Film at Lincoln Center announce the 28th Rendez Vous with French Cinema in New York

The programming for this 28th edition once again demonstrates the diversity and vitality of French cinema, thanks in part to the works of directors we love across the Atlantic, such asArnaud Desplechin, Patricia Mazuy, Louis Garrel, Christophe Honore or Rebecca Zlotowski. And on the other hand via numerous films by emerging talents, notably represented by Florent Gouelou, Lise He Can & Roman Gueret or Cedric Ido.

The opening night will be devoted to Alice Winocourwho will present his latest film, See Paris againalso in the presence of Virginie Efira, which recently received a French Cinema Award from Unifrance. For Daniela Elstnergeneral manager of the association, “their presence highlights what French cinema represents today for American audiences: an alternative voice and vision of human relations, global issues and collective consciousness that shines through this year’s selection.”

On his side, Florence Almozinisenior programmer at Film at Lincoln Centeradd: “As always, the Rendez-Vous are a perfect showcase to show the artistry, relevance and diversity of contemporary French cinema. This includes the rare pleasure of having this year both the films of Philippe and Louis Garrel, as well as welcoming many directors that we already know.”

Meetings

  • A dialogue between filmmakers Alice Winocour and opening night special guest Sophie Bartheswhich will evoke the work of the first
  • A conversation with Virginie Efira around the evolution of her career and her approach to portraying women who are both complex and irresistibly convincing.
  • A conversation with Louis Garrelhosted by Owen Kline, around the actor-director’s distinctive sensibilities, his thematic and stylistic interests, and how his work is shaped by the directing process.
  • The “Queer Identities on Screen” round table (in partnership with The Gotham Film & Media Institute and French in Motion), in the presence of Christophe Honore et Florent Gouelou.
