The past 2022 was marked by the adaptation of Peruvians to post-pandemic life and by the economic recovery driven by the digitization of many daily activities and productive sectors that balanced face-to-face with a growing use of digital tools. In addition, there were changes in Internet consumption on educational platforms and an increase in the demand for connectivity for entertainment services.
“At the end of 2022, mobile network traffic grew by 21% compared to the consumption made at the end of 2021, as part of the natural evolution of user behavior in the use of technologies such as streaming, as reported Movistar. Regarding the fixed internet service, we managed to transmit an aggregate flow of data of up to 6,000 GB per second. Likewise, we continue to work on our plan for the massive migration of our clients to fiber throughout the country. We are the fiber provider with the greatest coverage nationwide and we will continue with the purpose of connecting all Peruvians with the best technology”explained Christian Livia, Director of Network Operation and Maintenance at Movistar.
MIRA: Which were the operators that offered the fastest 4G mobile internet in 2022?
Among the most used services, streaming maintained its leadership with 43% of consumption. The applications that generated the most internet traffic were YouTube, Facebook and Netflix, which represent 25%, 23% and 18% of the total, respectively, where Facebook had an increase of 6% during 2022. The consumption of video games was also important.
“Knowing the evolution of consumers in the use of these technologies, we have prepared our networks to continue serving our customers to offer them a better experience with our network, since it is present in the largest number of our daily activities (work, entertainment , business, etc.). Through our network we support almost 60% of the country’s total data traffic”, he explained.
Internet demand is maintained
It should be noted that, although the pandemic caused the demand for the Internet to double, it has been maintained with the return to face-to-face activities in various office activities and in educational institutions.
“At Movistar we maintain the commitment to strengthen our network capabilities that allow us to provide an optimal service in response to the needs and greater connectivity demands of our clients, who now coexist between face-to-face and virtual reality, which is reflected in the increase in mobile traffic”said Christian Livia.
In this way, Movistar reaffirms its commitment to ensure connectivity and, year after year, maximize the possibilities of communication between Peruvians.
