Washington: Five American policemen have been charged with murder in an incident in which a black man was brutally beaten for a traffic violation and died while undergoing treatment. In the incident in the eastern state of Tennessee, the police have been charged with second-degree murder.
The culprits are the officers of the station in the city of Memphis. 29-year-old Tyree Nichols was killed. The incident took place on January 7. The young man was chased by a police team for careless driving and was stopped and brutally beaten. The young man was admitted to the hospital in critical condition and died on January 10.
Following an internal investigation by the police, five black officers who were found guilty were fired earlier. Demetrius Halle, Desmond Mills Jr., Emmitt Martin, Justin Smith, and Tadarius Bean are the accused. They are now in police custody.
This is not just a professional failure, but a failure of basic humanity towards another person. The Memphis Police Chief said in a statement that this incident was heinous and inhumane.
