Maine Coon: – Can break all records

In June last year, Chastity Hobbs (26) adopted the cat Kusa.

Kusa was only three months old, and tiny.

Now the white cat has turned nine months old – and is one meter long.

– The last time I weighed him, he was 6.8 kilos, but he has probably put on two or three kilos. He has grown enormously since then, she tells the news agency South Wales News Service (SWNS).

Have to shell out

Chastity Hobbs lives in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, together with Kusa and three other cats.

She says she spends around NOK 1,600 a month on cat food.

While the other cats have a regular cat litter, Kusa must have an extra large one.

– People think he’s a lynx, says Hobbs.

Biggest of all

The reason why Kusa is so big is that he is of the Maine Coon breed.

This is the largest of all domestic cat breeds, according to Large Norwegian encyclopedia.

A fully grown male weighs between six and eight kilos, while females four to six kilos. It can take several years before the cat is fully grown.

If Kusa continues to grow, he can break all world records.

At the time of writing, it is the Maine Coon cat Barivel that is registered in Guinness book of records as the world’s longest, with its 120 centimeter length.

Afraid that he will tear down the wall

Maine Coon cats are known to love to play.

Instead of a regular cat stand, Chasity Hobbs has created a solid cat wall where her cats can frolic.

Hobbs fears that Kusa is going to tear down the entire wall.

– I think we need to move to a bigger place. We have a cat wall and I’m worried that the wall will fall down when he gets bigger.

Bottom of the hierarchy

Despite being as tall as an average five-year-old, Kusa is at the bottom of the cat hierarchy back home in Phoenix.

– He’s too kind. He is a very demanding cat who requires a lot of attention, she says.

Think the cat is a dog

Dagbladet has previously written about Yulia Minina, who has a cat many people think is a dog.

The cat, named Kefir, is also a Maine Coon.

– I didn’t even think that a human baby could get so big, Minia told SWNS.
