Bandai Namco Entertainment/FromSoftware’s action RPG “ELDEN RING” is a very difficult game, and perhaps because of that, there are many people who play with various restrictions. Among them, there was a person who defeated the worst boss with a dance pad and at level 1 without daring to grow, but this time a game commentator who played Elden Ring with only his brain signals appeared.
Game commentator on TwitchPerri Karyalis that person. First, he put an electroencephalogram (EEG) device on his head. Specifically, he picks up brain signals from sensor pads on his head that are made conductive with saline. They then measured brain activity and looked for differences between when they were just talking and when they were imagining an attack.
Then, we assigned keybinds (combinations of operation inputs) according to each brain signal, making it possible to move the character and attack just by thinking.
Researchers experimented with using EEG signals to control gamesthis is not the first time. But doing it in a non-laboratory, casual environment and in a game as challenging as Elden Ring was probably unprecedented.
PerriKaryal, who has a master’s degree in psychology, could have done it, but he says the technology is very simple. After a few seconds of explaining with a focused expression, “This is the image of pushing something forward,” the character walks forward and attacks the enemy.
She is playing Elden Ring… with her brain. Twitch streamer @perrikaryal has hooked up an EEG to her brain, where different brain activity is key bound to different abilities in game

Certainly PerriKaryal doesn’t have anything in his hands (probably no dance pad), he’s just “thinking in his head.” Still, the characters on the screen use magic, drink recovery medicine, and dodge after a moment’s delay… I also defeated the red wolf of Radagon, which is one of the bosses.
This boss has low endurance, and even though it borrows the power of the ashes (help character), it seems to be splendid that the boss battle is established. In the future, superhumans who can defeat strong enemies such as “Abomination, Margit” with only brain waves may appear.
