Continental’s subsidiary in Lithuania begins the second round of production plant expansion :: Dienas Bizness

The German auto parts manufacturer “Continental”, which is one of the largest investors in Lithuania, has started the second round of expansion of the subsidiary “Continental Automotive Lithuania” production plant in the Kaunas region.

The first round of expansion was completed half a year ago.

“Continental” will have invested more than 190 million euros in the production plant in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone after the completion of the second round of expansion, the company announced on Wednesday.

It is expected that the number of employees of “Continental Automotive Lithuania” will reach 1,500 by 2025 compared to 732 employees at the end of last year.

Shajan Ali, General Manager of Continental Automotive Lithuania, said that the company wants to further expand the production of car electronics parts needed for autonomous driving and convenience functions.

“We are becoming a very serious center of autonomous driving technology in Kaunas,” he added.

As “Continental” informed, the expansion will allow to more than double the production output. Construction work is expected to be completed next spring.

Recently, the company in Lithuania was divided into two parts, creating a new company “Continental Autonomous Mobility Lithuania”.

Since autumn, the company “Continental Tires Business Services” has been located in the premises of “Continental” in the Free Economic Zone of Kaunas, where it is planned to create around 100 jobs within a few years. This company deals with data analysis and process management, as well as administrative functions.

The “Continental” company started its operations in the Kaunas region at the end of 2019. The establishment of this factory was the largest foreign investment in production in Lithuania in twenty years.

The factory in Kaunas produces passenger safety and intelligent assistance systems for the car driver, including door and seat controls, smart window dimming systems, as well as radar sensors for comfort functions, such as adaptive cruise control, and safety systems, such as emergency braking functions. The production is exported to European countries.
