A meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) took place today. The key issue was sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes.
Following the meeting, the IOC issued a release in which it announced its readiness to allow Russian athletes to compete under several conditions:
1) Performance in a neutral status – without the national flag, anthem and other symbols.
2) The athlete must not be seen actively supporting the war in Ukraine.
3) Regular doping tests.
“No athlete should be denied the right to compete just because of their passport,” the IOC said in a statement. The Committee will conduct individual checks on each athlete before giving him the right to participate in competitions.
