George Santos gives away Chic-Fil-A to journalists – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK — US Representative George Santos reminded reporters once again Wednesday that he would comment on their admitted lies and recurring accusations since, “whenever there is comment to be made,” and treated those posted outside his office with Chick-fil-A, a day after feeding them donuts which, by all accounts, they mostly ate.

“No comment for you at this time,” the Long Island Republican said as he was peppered with questions on his way to the elevator. “When there are comments to make regarding anything you want, we’ll make those comments. I just hope you’ll wait patiently, and in the meantime, we’ll be in touch.”

When asked specifically about claims Santos recently made that he was the target of an assassination attempt and mugged on Fifth Avenue in the middle of the day, the embattled politician told reporters to investigate.

“You guys do a good job investigating,” Santos said.

The New York police said Tuesday that they had no record of any mugging or attempt on the life of the now-congressman.

The questions arose in the wake of Rachel Maddow’s Monday night show that played a video from a Brazilian podcast that Santos recorded in December. In Portuguese, she first stated that there was an attempt on her life. During the same podcast, he claimed that the robbers attacked him in August 2021 in the heart of downtown, at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street, at noon.

Santos said on the podcast that the thieves took his watch, briefcase and shoes.

Most New Yorkers said they didn’t believe the robbery charge, and recent polls show they want him to resign. Santos admitted to embellishing his job credentials, but said an ethics investigation would not deter him from the job.
