The moment of Najwa Shihab’s conversation with his father Muhammad Quraish Shihab became the public spotlight.
The reason is, Najwa admits that she doesn’t want to wear the headscarf to cover her genitals like a Muslim woman.
As it turned out, Quraish admitted that there was no problem when Najwa was still reluctant to wear the headscarf.
In fact, Quraish also gave Najwa freedom regarding the decision to wear the hijab.
“So it’s okay if Nana doesn’t wear the headscarf yet?” asked Najwa in a broadcast shared by a gossip account on social media, quoted on Wednesday (25/1).
“Well, it’s up to Nana,” answered Quraish.
Not only the problem of wearing the headscarf, Quraish also gave Najwa the freedom to choose her own path in life.
One of the freedoms given by Quraish to Najwa is also related to education.
“Never mind clothes, in terms of education, it’s up to you, did Abi ever force you?” said Quraish.
“No,” said Najwa.
On the other hand, Alwi Shihab, Najwa’s uncle, also gave his opinion on Najwa’s decision not to wear the headscarf.
Alwi said that his daughter also did not wear the headscarf until now.
In fact, Alwi never wanted to force his daughter to wear the headscarf.
“I have a daughter, Mimi, who also doesn’t wear the headscarf, but because we only know one, so she doesn’t want to see the others, the others are considered heretical,” said Alwi.
However, Alwi still believes that it is indeed better for Muslim women to wear the headscarf according to Islamic teachings.
“But one thing, yes, if you can wear the headscarf, it’s better, doesn’t mean (not wearing the headscarf) isn’t better, and if you can’t wear the headscarf, you can wear a hat,” Alwi concluded.
