Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Kuwaiti Parliament calls for a boycott of products from Sweden. This is the aftermath of the burning of the Koran in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, last weekend.
In a session, 41 MPs condemned the burning of Muslim holy books by a right-wing political figure, Rasmus Paludan. They call the move provoking the feelings of Muslims around the world.
“We also condemn the Swedish government for giving permission to carry out such actions and call on all parliamentarians in the world to boycott the Swedish government and all governments that do not respect the sacred values of Muslims,” the joint statement said. Parliament is not the first to call for a boycott in Kuwait. Monday, the country’s cooperatives also announced a boycott of Swedish products in protest at Paludan’s provocative actions.
Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has issued a statement condemning the burning of the Koran. “Hurts the sentiments of Muslims around the world and marks a serious provocation”, he stressed.

Actually, the Swedish government also criticized Paludan’s action. Swedish Prime Minister (PM) Ulf Kristersson said what Paludan was doing was ‘disrespectful’.
Previously, Paludan carried out the burning of the Koran in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm. This was in reaction to criticizing Turkey and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who he said cornered Sweden’s position regarding NATO registration.
Turkey is a NATO country that opposes Sweden joining for a number of reasons, including “support” for Kurdish groups, which Ankara considers rebels. In fact, to become a member of NATO, Sweden must get the approval of all 30 members of the alliance alias.
Paludan’s action sparked a wave of protests in a number of Muslim-majority countries. On the other hand, Dutch politician Edwin Wagensveld, who shared a video of the provocative action of tearing up the Koran in front of the parliament building in The Hague, echoed this.
