If you cut walnuts in your own yard or garden, but you don’t have a permit to do so, you risk hefty fines. The warning comes from the Directorate for Agriculture Brașov, which last year imposed fines of 20,000 lei, reports Rador.
The walnut and the edible chestnut are species protected by law, so anyone who wants to cut such a tree must submit a request in this regard.
The specialists will later decide whether the nuts can be cut or just cleaned.
“Irrespective of the owners, the cutting of walnuts is done only on the basis of authorization – the trees must be old and have dry branches in proportion to 60% of the crown; to be located in a perimeter where objectives of national interest or interest of the local community are to be built or to be located on national road alignments and the safety of road traffic is endangered. If these conditions are not met, it is recommended to clean the trees. During the past year, a number of 156 requests for walnut cutting were registered at the level of the Brașov County Agriculture Directorate. Only 46 were authorized, for the difference of 110, toileting was recommended”, said the executive director of the Directorate for Agriculture, Claudia David.
Those who cut nuts or edible chestnuts without authorization risk fines between 5,000 and 10,000 lei.
