Belarusian soldiers in full battle gear watch what is happening. They write down the coordinates for an attack and radio each other. Then they blow up a big tank.
Several fighters get out of a tank. On the spot, they train for hand-to-hand combat. They also shoot guns.
These are scenes from two propaganda videos that are currently circulating on the internet. In it, the Belarusian army prepares itself for war. “Short films like this are intended to put the Ukrainian troops around Kyiv on alert,” says ETH strategy expert Marcel Berni (34) to Blick.
«Enjoy the random chaos»
However, the clips on social media are not exactly a deterrent – but rather a source of ridicule. “A bit of random chaos,” jokes one Twitter user. “Enjoys it.”

For months there has been repeated speculation about a possible intervention by Belarus in the Ukraine war. Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko (68) and Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) are close allies. Plans have been in the air for a long time to set up a joint regional combat force.
Are you already preparing to attack?
In addition, Russia is said to be preparing an attack on Ukraine in Belarus. Military expert Berni says: “Russia’s presence in Belarus should also put the troops around Kyiv on alert.” The goal is to withdraw Ukrainian soldiers from the “hot fronts” and tie them to the border with Belarus.
Is it likely that the Belarusians will enter the war? “The long logistics lines, the negative Russian experiences last spring and the lack of military equipment in Belarus speak against it,” says Berni. On the other hand, the pressure from Putin and the lack of Russian successes in Ukraine speak in favor of this. The strategy expert: “I see future Russian offensives much more in the Donbass.”
