Juventus entangled in the transfer value manipulation case. The Old Lady was only subject to a point deduction penalty and not relegation. How come?
Juventus was sentenced to a deduction of 15 points by the Federal Court of Appeal. The sanction was given after Bianconeri convicted of manipulating transfer value and capital gains.
The sentence handed down was heavier than the demands of the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) prosecutor. FIGC previously demanded a sanction of 9 points deducted from Juventus.
Not a few to judge Juventus deserving of a more severe punishment, including a relegation sanction. The Turin club has been hit by a scandal Calciopoli aka the match fixing case in 2006, the scandal that made them drop to Serie B.
Italian financial journalist, Marco Bellinazzo, assesses the current Juventus scandal tarnishing the name A league. Nevertheless, it is very difficult to impose a relegation penalty because it is not supported by strong evidence on the ground.
“It could be worse than Calciopoli in terms of the image of Italian football. A 15-point sanction for Juventus, one of the most important Serie A clubs, makes headlines abroad,” said Bellinazzo, quoted from Football Italia.
“Everyone can see that. Something like this will not allow Serie A to reach the level of the Premier League,” he continued.
“That [hukuman degradasi, red] either option, but to get there, the false accounting has to be proven along with the fact Juventus don’t have the financial terms they claim. This is very difficult to prove because over the last three years, they also received an injection of 700 euros, so I will rule out sanctions of this kind.”
“However, we do not know the contents of all 14,000 pages collected by the Turin Prosecutor’s Office which will be disclosed at the preliminary hearing on March 27,” Marco Bellinazzo revealed.
