Optimism is returning to the Latvian tourism sector / Article

The representatives of the industry indicated that the price increase is higher for long-distance – intercontinental trips. Prices have also increased in the most popular tourist destinations in many parts of Europe.

“In the world as a whole, the flow of tourists is recovering very steadily, the demand is growing rapidly, which shows that, contrary to perhaps one or the other such forecasts and assumptions, traveling is what we want to do, how we want to spend our free time, spend money ,” presented by Āriks Lingebērziņš, chairman of the board of the Association of Latvian Tourist Agent Operators.

CONTEXT:

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) announced last week that the number of international tourists reached 917 million last year, doubling it compared to 455 million in 2021.

Although the number of international tourists last year was still only 63% of the number recorded in 2019 before the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the WTO has predicted that it could reach 80-95% this year. Further recovery of the tourism sector this year will be facilitated by an increase in demand, especially in Asia and the Pacific region, the WTO explained.
