Slovakian skier Petra Vlhová settled in sixth place after the 1st round of Tuesday’s giant slalom of the World Cup. In Kronplatz, Italy, she was 1.01 seconds behind the leading American Mikaela Shiffrin after all 57 competitors left. The Swiss Lara Gutová Behramiová was second with a distance of 13 hundredths, while the Italian Federica Brignone (+0.27) was in third place.
The racers’ ride was complicated by light snow, but the visibility on the Erta slope was good. Vlhová with starting number 3 had a weaker start, she corrected her loss in the steep part. In the lower part, however, she picked up another shortcoming. The Canadian Valerie Grenierová and the American Paula Moltzanová also got ahead of the Slovak skier.
“She lost in the upper part and in the lower part. She was not moving in the right direction and was picking up the loss. Otherwise, the track was built simply, the snow was excellent. I believe that Mauro Pini is building the second round will help us.” stated for JOJ Šport Matej Gemza, assistant coach of the Slovak female skier.
Shiffrin also took advantage of the fact that her coach Mike Day was building the 1st round track. The Americans got off to an excellent start and, together with Gutová-Behramiová, also had the fastest final passage.
In the 2nd round (1:30 p.m.), she will be aiming for her 83rd victory, which would create a female record for the number of triumphs and become independent from compatriot Lindsey Vonn.
The first round did not go according to expectations for the leader of the discipline, Marta Bassinová, the Italian took to the track first. With a loss of 1.42 seconds, she was in 9th position.
