Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was another worldwide hit in 2016 with revenue of more than $ 810 million, while successors The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) in The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022) stuck at $650 and $406 million, respectively.
The film series also faced controversy surrounding a few cast members. For example, writer JK Rowling came under fire for transphobic statements and actor Ezra Miller was charged with assault and burglary. Johnny Depp, who plays the role of the villain Grindelwald in the first two films, was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen in the third part. The actor had to resign his role after he his libel case in return for The Sun, because of an article calling him a “woman abuser.” The judge found insufficient evidence that Depp had not assaulted his ex-wife.
