Jakarta

Apartment without bathroom facilities is becoming a prima donna in Japan. Recently, there has been a phenomenon of young people looking for a place to live without caring about the completeness of the facilities.

This phenomenon appears to be mentioned because of the encouragement of the financial condition of young people in Japan. Apartment facilities are not currently a major consideration, cheap rent is what attracts people to rent apartments, regardless of bathroom facilities.

Reporting from SoraNews24, Monday (23/1/2023), apartments without bathroom facilities are considered to be much cheaper to rent. It can be 10-20 thousand Yen cheaper than an apartment with complete facilities.

One of the apartments near Nerima Station offers to rent an apartment for around 32,000 Yen or around Rp. 3.68 million (exchange rate of Rp. 115). This apartment has the advantage of being very close to downtown Tokyo, only 10 minutes by train.

Another apartment-less occupant found near Tabata Station on the Yamanote Line, it’s a circular line that circles central Tokyo. The rent for an apartment without a bathroom is just as cheap, only around 33 thousand Yen or Rp. 3.79 million per month.

Then how about the occupants apartment take a shower and meet his hygiene needs?

In Japan, there is such a thing as a sento, aka a public bath. Places like this are still very much to be found in big cities in Japan. They are no longer as popular as they used to be, but in a city with as many people as Tokyo, they have not completely disappeared.

It is also reported that many companies are starting to offer apartment search services without bathrooms. An ‘apartment realtor’ firm called Tokyo Sento claims to specialize in helping tenants find non-bathroom apartments within close proximity of public baths.

Apartment without a bathroom was actually a trend two or three generations ago, and some see the ancient practice of gathering a packet with soap, shampoo, towels, and a change of clothes, then walking to the sento to wash up as a relaxing ritual and a rhythm of life.
