It’s really unlucky for the fate of this British Airways flight attendant. On his first day at work, he made a mistake that cost the airline a loss of US$ 95,000 (equivalent to Rp. 1.4 billion).
According to media reports The Sun, the unidentified flight attendant accidentally opened the plane’s emergency door, causing the emergency slide to exit.
When the plane’s emergency door opened, it was discovered that the Boeing 777 belonging to British Airways was being pushed towards the runway. The incident occurred on Saturday (14/1) last weekend.
After the emergency door was opened, the emergency team immediately rushed to the runway where the British Airways flight number BA75 bound for Lagos, Nigeria was located.
Due to the mistake of a flight attendant who had only worked for 1 day, British Airways had to lose up to US$ 95,000 (equivalent to Rp. 1.4 billion) to pay for aircraft slots, replace spare parts, and send replacement aircraft.
“The aircraft returned to its original point and all passengers were disembarked normally,” said a statement from British Airways, as quoted from The Sun, Friday (20/1/2023).
“We apologize to passengers for the inconvenience caused. We are providing vouchers and a replacement plane, so they can continue their journey according to schedule,” the British airline added.
As a result of the incident, the British Airways flight from London to Lagos experienced a delay of 4 hours. After the replacement plane arrived, all passengers were flown safely to Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the British Airways flight attendant who caused the incident reportedly resigned immediately on his first day of work.
