France’s historical top scorer in the World Cup reveals his position on international retirement and renewal of his contract with the Italian champion | Football

French striker Olivier Giroud revealed his intention to renew his contract with AC Milan, and that he is not ready to set a date for the end of his career with his club or the French national team.

The 36-year-old’s current contract with Milan expires next June, and he also faced questions about his future with the French national team in the wake of the defeat against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final that was held in Qatar.

Former French goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris announced his retirement from international football earlier this January, and Karim Benzema hinted at the end of his career with the national team, noting that he did not participate in the World Cup due to injury.

But Giroud, who became the historic scorer for the French national team through the World Cup, refused to set a date for his retirement from international football.

“For the time being, I am continuing with the national team,” Giroud said in statements to the “Canal Football Club” television program. Hugo’s decision to leave (from the national team) surprised me. There is a special relationship that unites us.

He added, “Anything can happen. I have not withdrawn from the international arena, and therefore I am still available to participate.”

Jiro also faced questions about his future with his club, as his contract with Milan expires at the end of the current season, and he expressed a desire to continue with the team.

“I want to renew with Milan, and by winning the Italian League title, I entered the hearts of the fans,” Giroud said.

He added, “I am talking with the club, and if there is an opportunity to finish my career at a high level with Milan, I will. I may choose a strange destination, and I have always loved Major League Soccer.”

Milan ranks second in the Italian League, 12 points behind leaders Napoli, before its scheduled match against Lazio tomorrow, Tuesday.
