Jakarta –
Bos Instagram Adam Mosseri said the social media platform displayed too many videos and reels during 2022.
This, according to Mosseri in his weekly question and answer session with users, makes ordinary photo postings even worse.
“I think we’re focusing too much on video in 2023 and pushing it too far, and basically showing too much video and too few photos,” he said.
But now, according to him, Instagram has started to fix this problem, namely so that the photos and videos displayed are more balanced. Mosseri also admitted that internal data showed that now the photos and videos displayed were balanced.
“Things like how often someone likes a photo over video and how often someone comments on a photo over video are actually comparable, which is actually a good thing,” said Mosseri.
“To the point where there are more videos on Instagram, that’s going to happen because that’s what drives engagement more. But photos will always be important to what we do,” he added.
That was Mosseri’s answer to a question regarding photographers who claim to have lost hope in Instagram as a platform to showcase their work. This kind of sentiment has started to circulate since Instagram redesigned its application so that it resembles TikTok, starting in 2022.
The experiment didn’t really go very smoothly and was later cancelled, but the shift in focus to video continued. That is when Instagram categorizes all user-posted videos as a Reels.
Mosseri also said that now Stories posted by users will be returned as before, which will be automatically deleted after 24 hours.
